The "crouching Aphrodite" of Diodalsas - a Roman copy of the original work in bronze from early 2. century BC.
Diodalsas lived and worked in ancient Bithynia, modern environs of Bursa, Turkey as a court sculpturer. In this mastepiece he portrayed Aphrodite, whom you see was not slender at all!!! These norms of beauty of course signified that the lady was healthy, whereas slimness was considered as a sure sign of diseases. Thus the goddess of love and beauty is portrayed in a more conventional body size. These Hellenistic work also effected renasaince art; Italian masters would choose their models with similar body sizes during the 16th and 17th century where the population of Europa was suffering from black death plague.
I also appreciate the model..she is beautiful
